Between Light & Knowledge
D.H. Hill Library
North Carolina State University
Raleigh, North Carolina
The D.H. Hill Library at North Carolina State University is the hub of the campus. The new addition completed in 2007 provides reading spaces to accommodate extended periods of study time for students and faculty. "Between Light & Knowledge" fills the atrium, facing the central quad of the University with dancing light. The dichroic glass casts moving shadows of changing color on the floor, walls, and out into the courtyard. Below the sculpture is a large bench, which can accommodate a dozen readers. The students remarked at the opening of the building that they were anxious to spend more time reading in the space enveloped in the cyclically changing encompassing light and color.
