Evanescent Environs/ Fields & Frogs

Evanescent Environs/Fields & Frogs is an experiential installation transforming the Gallery into a Landscape of reflective and translucent ephemeral land, sky, and audio scape.  Drawings, mono-prints, photographs accompany the mirror and glass landscapes, and viewer triggered sounds of wind blown fields with unseen croaking frogs emerging from the winds. The installation moves from arid alluvial plains to lush irrigated fields.  The landscape follows a representational irrigation stream, expanding and contracting from stream to pond.  The soft and mysterious sound of frogs represent the link between our cultivated landscapes and the unfettered natural world.  Frogs symbolize transformation, with their fascinating and mesmerizing evolution from transparent eggs to darting water creatures propelled by a tail to the singing quadruped that lives both on land and in water. The fields also transform from plowed earth to seed to crop.  Frogs

have become an environmental symbol of alarm with species disappearing and leaving the landscape silent, warning of the ecological devastation caused by disruption of ecosystems. We can learn to share the agrarian use of the land with the creatures, who also use the land for their life support, we have the same needs.  Composer Istvan B’Racz will create the audio portion of the installation.
